Rio2016 #RoadToRio: Jamaica’s Long Distance Champion Kemoy Campbell
25-year-old Jamaican long distance sensation Kemoy Campbell has single handedly obliterated the stereotype that Jamaican professional athletes are not talented in long-distance events. With Rio 2016 firmly on the horizon, Campbell’s destiny has arrived after four years of endless sacrifice, dedication and preparation to become a national hero in Jamaica. Campbell – who represented Bellefield High prior to succeeding in the NCAA as an Arkansas Razroback – secured championships in both the 1,500m and 5,000m events. Thereafter, Campbell then set an unprecedented 1,500m record of 3:48:43. Kemoy Campbell has also claimed both the 1,500m and 5,000m events, whilst smashing records that existed for seventeen years. Furthermore, the talented Jamaican lowered his 5,000m record from 14:33:43 to an impressive 14:18:58.
