Sir Elton John

This month’s music icon is Sir Elton John, a global superstar whose music career has spanned over 4 decades.  At the age of 65,  Elton John continues to make an impact in the world of music and is one of the few living music legends of our time.

In his four-decade career,  Elton John has sold more than 250 million records,  making him one of the most successful artists of all time.  His single “Candle in the Wind” sold over 33 million copies worldwide, and is the bestselling single in Billboard history, as well as the second bestselling single of all time.  He has more than 50 Top 40 hits, including seven consecutive No. 1 US albums,  56 Top 40 singles,  16 Top 10,  four No. 2 hits, and nine No. 1 hits.  He has won six Grammy Awards,  four Brit Awards, an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award and a Tony Award. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked him Number 49 on its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time.

Elton John’s career doesn’t stop at being an artist.  He has also written song’s for various different artists from across the world. In 1994,  Elton wrote and produced the song’s for Disney’s The Lion King in which he won an academy award for and later in 2006 Disney named him a ‘Disney Legend’  for his contributions to Disney Films. In 1976, Elton John brought and became the chairman and director of Watford football club he later sold the club but remained their lifelong president. Elton has also appeared in various films including Elton John Me, Myself and I- a film based on his life. Elton John was the 1167 person to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Elton John remains a major activist for Aids charities and in 1996,  Elton John was awarded a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II for services to music and charitable services.

Sir Elton John has been nothing but inspirational throughout his career,  an iconic figurehead who still at the age of 65 continues to wow the crowds. His recent performance at the Queen’s Diamond jubilee concert was one of the best performances of the night showcasing just how talented and legendary Elton John is.
